Mold accessories, as the core components of the mold industry, are used in stamping molds, plastic molds and various FA automation equipment. They are the general name for a series of metal components. These accessories play a vital role in many manufacturing fields such as plastic molds, stamping molds, automotive electronics, and aerospace.
According to industry practices, mold accessories can be roughly divided into two categories: standard parts and non-standard parts. Among them, mold standard parts follow the internationally accepted standardization principles, do not need to be specially customized, and have wide applicability and versatility. These standard parts are further subdivided into plastic mold accessories, hardware stamping mold accessories, and automation machinery accessories, which follow internationally renowned standard systems such as China’s national standard, Japan’s MISUMI/O standard, the United States’ DME/O standard, Spain’s CUMSA/O standard, Germany’s HASCO/O standard, and Germany’s FIBRO standard.
Through standardized design, mold standard parts not only improve production efficiency and reduce manufacturing costs, but also ensure the interchangeability and high precision of molds, laying a solid foundation for the sustainable development of the mold manufacturing industry.
For example, in the field of injection molds, which is our specialty, each part plays a specific role in the operation of the mold. Here are some common injection mold parts and their uses:
1. Concave mold (cavity): This is a concave part on the surface of the formed plastic part. The concave mold plate (cavity plate) is a plate-shaped part with a concave contour on the surface of the plastic part. The one placed in the fixed mold is called the fixed mold cavity plate, and the one placed in the movable mold is called the movable mold cavity plate.
2. Core: This is a convex part on the inner surface of the formed plastic part.
3. Side core: It is used to form the side hole, side concave or side boss of the plastic part, which can be pulled out and reset manually or with the slider in the mold.
4. Insert: When the concave mold or core has a part that is easy to damage or difficult to process as a whole, it will be manufactured separately from the main part and embedded in the main part. Such a local formed part is called an insert. The movable insert is a formed part that must be ejected from the mold with the plastic part according to the process and structural requirements before it can be separated from the plastic part.
5. Thread core: It is a forming part used to form the internal thread of the plastic part. It can be a movable thread core (taken out of the mold) or a thread core that rotates in the mold.
6. Threaded ring: a forming part used to form the external thread of a plastic part, which can be a movable threaded ring (integral or spliced) or a threaded ring that rotates in the mold.
7. Guide pins and guide sleeves: the guide pins cooperate with the guide sleeves (or holes) installed on the other half of the mold to ensure the guiding accuracy of the opening and closing movement of the movable mold. The guide sleeves cooperate with the guide pins installed on the other half of the mold to ensure the relative position of the movable mold and the fixed mold. The push plate guide pins and the push plate guide sleeves (or holes) are in a sliding fit and are used for the movement guidance of the demoulding mechanism.
8. Cooling and heating parts: cooling parts such as cooling water nozzles and partitions are used to pass cold water into the mold to change the flow direction of the cooling water. Heating parts such as heating plates are provided with plates with heating structures such as hot water (oil), steam or electric heating elements to ensure that the mold temperature meets the requirements of the plastic forming process. The heat insulation board is used to prevent heat transfer and diffusion.
9. Gate and runner parts: the gate is directly in contact with the injection machine nozzle and has a bushing part with a main runner channel. In order to improve the service life of the gate, the gate insert adopts replaceable wear-resistant metal inserts. The runner plate is a plate specially set up for opening the branch channel, which can be divided into hot runner plate and warm runner plate.
These parts work together to ensure the efficient, precise and stable operation of the injection mold. In the production process, each part plays an irreplaceable role and is of great significance to improving product quality and production efficiency.
Among them, non-standard parts refer to mold components with unique structures that are different in specifications and shapes from conventional standard molds. They are usually customized and manufactured by suppliers based on detailed drawings and specific requirements provided by customers. The mold accessories field occupies a leading position in the hardware accessories industry due to its strict requirements on precision and quality. These mold accessories not only require a high level of industrial manufacturing, but also need to be equipped with cutting-edge technical equipment as support, especially for non-standard precision molds, whose manufacturing precision is so high that the tolerance range can be precisely controlled to 0.001 mm.
Among them, we take our advantage of non-standard mold parts, which mainly include those parts that are customized according to specific needs and do not follow standard specifications. The following are some common non-standard mold parts:
front mold and back mold: These two parts are the core parts in the injection mold, which together define the shape and size of the plastic part. Due to the diversity of plastic parts, the front mold and back mold usually need to be customized according to the specific needs of customers.
Inserts: Inserts are parts used to embed in the main body of the mold to form specific parts of the plastic part. Due to the complexity and diversity of plastic parts, inserts often need to be customized to meet specific shape and size requirements. Cores and cavities with special
structures: For some plastic parts with special structures, such as plastic parts with threads, gears or complex geometries, special cores and cavities need to be designed to form. These cores and cavities are usually non-standard parts.
Hot runner system parts: The hot runner system is used to keep the molten plastic flowing during the injection molding process to improve production efficiency and plastic part quality.
The parts of the hot runner system, such as nozzles, manifolds, etc., often need to be customized according to the customer’s mold design and production needs. Ejector mechanism parts:
The ejector mechanism is used to eject the plastic part from the mold after the injection molding is completed. These parts, such as ejector pins, ejector blocks, etc., also need to be customized according to the shape and size of the plastic part.
Other customized parts: According to the specific needs of customers, other customized parts may also be included, such as sliders, inclined pins, positioning blocks, etc., which play a key positioning, guiding and forming role in the mold.
These non-standard mold parts usually need to be designed and manufactured according to the customer’s drawings, samples or detailed descriptions. Due to their particularity and complexity, high-precision processing equipment and strict quality control are often required during the manufacturing process.
